@willywoollove — Thanks. I was actually thinking about that very line, as The Dark Knight is considerably darker than Batman Begins and I was considering how to extend the metaphor in my (as yet unwritten) review.

Batman Begins is dark roast served black. No cream. No sugar.

That right there is the best line from a review on this movie I have seen. I might add Scalding hot,the perfect sized cup, filled up.

I think where a lot of reviewers trip up is forgetting the movie's target audience. It's easy to watch Garfield or The Cat in the Hat as an adult and say, "That was utter crap. Thumbs down, zero stars, turkey, etc." Of course, five year olds love The Cat in the Hat. They think it's absolutely hilarious.

As to the amount of talent in Batman Begins, there certainly was no shortage. Oldman, Caine and Freeman are all personal favorites, and it's great to see them in pretty much anything, even if they're playing supporting roles. It's got to be tough for Katie Holmes to be compared to those guys, especially since the character was so dull.

She was in 'The Gift', where she provided the requisite topless shot. Also did time as the star of a WB? drama series (evening soap).

I wouldn't be terribly worried about regurgitating what RE wrote, wouldn't be anywhere as bad as what he ate. I occasionally watch his show, and he can concentrate more on the movie fitting in with his views than the true context.

Ms Holmes was also surounded by a surprising amount of talent, ie Mssrs Caine and Freeman. Sounds like Mr Bale was either up to the task or the role was a good fit.

I can't recall seeing her in anything else, so I can't say I know anything about her acting ability (or lack thereof). What I do know is that it wasn't a very good character and she wound up being outshined by everyone else.

I actually haven't read any other reviews. I've heard plenty of people say that X or Y raved about it, but I've been avoiding most reviews of late. Part of it is not wanting someone else's opinion to color my own before I see a movie, but part of it is also because I don't want my own reviews to be in any way affected by what other people have written. It's not like I plan to become a professional movie critic, but I would like to be able to write something without worrying that I'm subconsciously regurgitating what Roger Ebert wrote.

Sloppy writing aside, apparantly you are not the only one underwhelmed by Ms Holmes' performance. The latest rumours have her as the only core member of the cast not invited to the sequel.

Whether this is a marketing ploy or not, it seems our local girl may have to be content with her role as the new Mrs Cruise. Wonder if I'll get a wedding invite?

Other than Ms Holmes, the reviews seem to be positive, especially when coming from people that understand the "Dark Knight" side of Batman
