Hmm, I should find a pair of Daisy Dukes for My Favorite Canadian. She may wear those, but I have my doubts on the knotted men’s shirts, as she is opposed to baring her midriff.

The bootleggers needed fast cars to elude the law when transporting their illicit hootch, so they souped up their rides. From this, NASCAR was born (according to blob, rumor holds that the winner of an early NASCAR race had been running illegal booze earlier that very day).

Watching this, Laura suddenly realized why two good ol’ boys in Hazzard County would be driving around in a souped-up Dodge Charger. Uncle Jesse was a moonshiner, after all. It all just clicked into place for her. An epiphany that plays “Dixie” when you blow the horn.

As an aside, I wonder if anyone knows why Bo and Luke originally went to prison? You’ll probably recall that their weapon of choice was the bow and arrow. This was out of necessity, as their probation prevented them from using firearms. Uncle Jesse, of course, was under no such restriction, hence his fondness for the shotgun. Might Bo and Luke have been sent up the river for running ’shine? If so, why wasn’t the General Lee siezed?

The internets will lead me to the answer, I’m sure.

That aside, as a male coming of age when The Dukes of Hazzard were not reruns, Daisy Duke was proof there was a God.

NASCAR and bootlegging were common story lines on The Dukes. Laura, being too young (and female) to watch the series would have missed the important history lessons learned firsthand. Thank goodness for the History Channel!
