Random movie quotes…

Every time I’m passing a tractor-trailer, dump truck or other ponderous vehicle going up a hill (usually on SOM Center Road between Euclid Avenue and I-90), I think to myself, “He can’t beat me on the grade. You can’t beat me on the grade!”

No clue what movie you are talking about.

An early Spielberg flick titled Duel and starring Dennis Weaver as a motorist who gets on a trucker’s bad side. Fleeing from the big rig in his little car, Weaver finds that the truck can very easily out-pace him on level ground, but quickly falls behind while going uphill. In that moment of realization, he delivers the aforementioned quote.

“Duel” sucked almost as much as “Maximum Overdrive”.

You just used the words “sucked” and “Maximum Overdrive” in a way with which I am not familiar. In adventure game parlance, I believe the appropriate response is, “I can’t use those together.”

    Oh No!

    Killer Coke machines!

Yep, Max OD was pathetic. Not currently bound by adventure game parlance I can use those words together. It took Mr King awhile to write ‘movie-ready’ stories. Watched “Secret Window” the other night (nobody spoiled the plot for us), and he’s come a looong way.

I guess I can remove “Duel” from the ‘consider’ list and get on with life.

I caught Duel on weekend-afternoon network television a couple of years ago. It’s a movie about road rage before we even knew what road rage was. Definitely dated, but I thought it was worth watching. Obviously, the one line (and just the one) stuck with me.

In all seriousness, Maximum Overdrive is pretty bad. It’s one of those bad movies that I enjoy watching, though, so I can’t knock it too hard.

Don’t feel bad, I saw it in the theater.
