  1. These are not your Mother’s pancakes.

They leave a bit to be desired.

I’ll admit to searching for good restaurant pancakes. Usually I left disappointed. IIRC, Cracker Barrel did ok.

We tend to have made-from-scratch pancakes once each weekend. Each member has their own favorite. Almost all are a buttermilk variant. Virtually all far surpass any type found at IHOP, IMHO.

Maybe they have other breakfasts that don’t suck. As bad.

I’m sorry. Maybe your Sandwich Artist will transfer her skills to IHOP.

  2. As quick (read: fast-food) pancakes go, I do like IHOP. Back when I was working at Micro Center, I took a trip to Dallas and ate breakfast at IHOP for ten straight days. I think Laura and I ate at the IHOP in Las Vegas twice when we were out there a couple of years ago.

When I spent a week in Florida for work, I often ate at Waffle House two out of three meals a day. Not healthy, by any means, and not sophisticated. Just damn good.

I can’t remember when I went to San Diego (must have been six years ago or more), but I was a regular at Johnny Rockets on that trip. Again, it sure ain’t good for you, it just hits the spot.

  3. I’m glad you’ve eaten at an IHOP (repeatedly, it seems) before. I remember being pleased we were getting some locally, but we were very disappointed in our experience there.

We now have several Waffle Houses(Homes?) to choose from. MFC likes hers covered (not smothered). The oldest Broodling took me to one for a birthday/Father’s Day treat last year. Not too bad.

They’ve opened up a Johnny Rockets in one of the nearby communities. We’ve eaten at a couple, tho not the local one yet.

Neither chain rates very high on the health spectrum I agree, but does indeed hit the spot.

All this sub talk forced me to take MFC to Jimmy Johns last night. Mmmm… I actually had a West Coast inspired sub complete with sprouts and avocado (oil & vinegar, no MAYO). Very tasty.

  4. IHOP: Come hungry, leave happy…or in an ambulance.

We have an IHOP locally; service has really gone down over the years. Always busy, tho.

Waffle House: One at every interstate exit, sometimes two per exit! We have three of them within a 2 mi radius – and Fayette County has NO interstate running thru it.

    Rather entrenched.

  5. The closest Waffle House for me is about a twenty minute drive. It’s fairly new, built within the last three years, I think. I haven’t been there, yet. Yet.
