Sometimes the best surprises are literally right under our noses, eh?

At least pleasant surprises, which seem to be few and far between.

Sunday was to be a riding day for me. I prefer riding in the evening, but this getting dark well before nine is really beginning to cramp my style. Today I left just before 6.

I really should be riding in the evenings, but I keep dredging up one excuse after another not to.

To qualify as aerobic, the pancake/sausage fest must raise your heart rate within the target zone for a set duration. Does it qualify due to anticipation or serving size?

I think the serving size had a lot to do with it. I had to put forth considerable effort to make it through all that food.

The little ‘oh, by the way Laura is pregnant’ tossed in at the end as casually as extra ketchup at a Burger King drive-through is a nice touch.

Given that the pregnancy pretty much blindsided Laura and I and then the "eighteen weeks" bit hit us like a Mack truck, I thought I should try to pass on a little of that surprise if I could.

To confirm what you already pointed out, the basic requirements in the pursuit of repleneshment are far from unpleasant.

Sunday was to be a riding day for me. I prefer riding in the evening, but this getting dark well before nine is really beginning to cramp my style. Today I left just before 6.

The nerd population is predominantly male for survival. Too many women would encourage inbreeding. The resulting influx of hybrid 'Super-Nerds' would require a balancing force. See the results of Superman/Lex Luthor or Batman/Joker for details. Not very appealing.

The little 'oh, by the way Laura is pregnant' tossed in at the end as casually as extra ketchup at a Burger King drive-through is a nice touch.

Congrats again from Myself, My Favorite Canadian and the three Broodlings.

Well, it’s good to know that someone is undergoing the unpleasant task of replenishing the nerd population.

Well, so far it hasn't been at all unpleasant. Any further comment on that would stray into the realm of Too Much Information (commonly referred to as "oversharing").

I'm not sure that the nerd population is endangered at present. Disproportionately male, certainly. The great thing about nerds is that so many of 'em are sired by non-nerds, so while the bulk of the population may never get an opportunity to procreate, their continued existence is assured by constant replenishment from outside their own ranks. It's got a certain je ne sais Borg feel to it.
