Am I on Candid Camera?

One of the main reasons I enjoy using Mozilla Firefox (and before that Opera and Avant Browser) is the MDI: it keeps my Windows taskbar relatively clutter-free.

At work, Internet Explorer 6 is the only approved browser, so the taskbar can get a little cluttered sometimes. When I glanced up (yes, I dock the taskbar at the top of the screen) just now, I saw this:

Am I on Candid Camera?

Granted, there were about six other applications/instances open at the same time, but these four were at the far right and the next one over on the left wasn’t an IE window, so they caught my eye right away.

Yes, Funt. As in “Allen Funt.”

Wouldn’t the Avant Browser plug in give you tabbed browsing and MDI (similar, no?)? Or have your IS people locked you out of plug-ins also?

Too bad you don’t know anyone in the IS Dept, huh?

How many applications/instances do you need open once anyhoo? Ten sounds…nerdy.

Once again I appear to only have questions.

    Input…need input!

Avant Browser isn’t really a plugin. It’s a separate application that integrates the IE browser functionality into a different GUI. I have the ability to install whatever I want on my laptop, but “unapproved” applications are generally frowned upon.

As many as it takes, hombre. Ten is a little excessive, but I generally have at least six apps/instances running at work. Right now, I’m running Lotus Notes, a couple instances of gVim (which isn’t approved), MS Word, two instances of IE, Windows Explorer and a third-party app I’m testing.

You weren’t kidding (I checked it from home last night). That is incredibly rude.
