New Look

If you’re not reading this from the RSS feed, you’ve likely noticed that I installed Scott Wallick’s “plaintxtBlog” theme for WordPress last night (if you don’t see any changes, press Ctrl-F5 to refresh the page). I wasn’t happy with certain aspects of the old theme (which I designed) and I thought it was time for a change. I’m looking for a nice way to bring back the Recent Comments and Tag Cloud features that were active in the old theme, but it’s going to require some creativity (or a plugin) to get them integrated in a manner that pleases my eye.

In the meantime, let me know what you think about the new theme. How are the colors? Fonts? Font sizes? What’s your general opinion of the layout?

Think about a masthead: “KJToo” in much larger eye-catching font, etc. What about graphics? Seems a little … blah. Just my two cents — you can keep the change.

It’s different, for sure. Haven’t seen too many blogs with this look.

I agree on the size of the ‘masthead’. Would make it more noticeable.

Not to question your impressive computer knowledge, oh mighty digerati, but what added benefit does CTRL add to F5? I’ve been under under the impression that F5 alone was enough to warrant a reload.

F5 refreshes the page. Ctrl-F5 refreshes and ensures that nothing is loaded from cache.

I do want to add graphics (alas, I’m no graphics designer), and I agree that the masthead needs to be a little more substantial. I’d also like to add a little color, but not too much. I was using a red/maroon in the old theme, and I may carry that over here.

    Yup. Definitely needs something.

OTOH, the ability to transition from the comments to the forum is a very welcome addition.

Any future changes must incorporate this.

I’ll be sure my people leave those links alone, then.

I’ve thought about switching to a CMS, such as phpNuke, but that would likely mean abandoning both Wordpress (the software that runs the blog) and SMF (the software that runs the forum) for whatever equivalent is integrated into the CMS. The advantage would be a more integrated look (the forum would be integrated into the main/blog page) and a single, across-the-board login for the entire site.

    We shall see.

Yay! Nothing that even remotely resembles the ‘Times New Roman’ font!!

It does need some ‘pop’ or ‘pizazz’, tho.

    Maybe some color.

    Or coupons for free movies.

Ohh, the logo is much bigger and better, sir!

But, could I get a comment box bigger’n a postage stamp.

In case I ever have something to say.

I’ll see what I can do.
