As a bandwidth-addict of no small measure, I always get a kick out of the image of someone being able to bring out a laptop on my Dad’s farm or in the Australian Outback (these points being somewhat equidistant from “Civilization”), firing up a browser and downloading some Jules Verne from Project Gutenberg. As your recent experiment with the GDID (Great December Info Detox) proves, you can ignore the webernets if you want to.

Purists who think there should be areas without bandwidth should just ignore it.

Those of us who crave it would have it available.

So, hearing about your parent’s place getting pitched into the sea of MAC addresses and IP’s out there renders the texture of a roaring fire in the virtual cockles of my heart.

But then, I’m kind of odd.

From what part of Michigan do you hail? I promise not to hold it against you if it turns out that you’re a troll.

That would be the Ann Arbor part. I lived there from birth to the ripe old age of seven.

I don’t believe anyone has ever described my blogging as “curiously circumspect” before. Hmm.

The eight devices were: my laptop, my wife’s laptop, my brother’s laptop, my other brother’s laptop, the aforementioned iPhone, my father’s desktop, my cousin’s laptop and my mother’s temporary laptop. Considering that only two weeks prior, only the desktop could connect to the Intarwebs (and only with a 24.6kbps dial-up connection), it was pretty amazing.

I think Kyle is recovering from those Belly Flips™, and I’ve begun re-recovering. It’s sad that I feel better on a Monday at work than I did over the weekend at home.

That many people living in one house can be rough. Me no likey.

It was definitely crowded, but it’s a big house and my mother came up with some very clever sleeping arrangements, so it worked out very well.

Ah… the days of being little and falling face first into 6+ inches of snow. Happy memories of childhood winters in Michigan you bring to me. Thanks!
