Jason — I definitely took a little artistic license when it came to the corpse of Madam President. I did absolutely no research in the area of decomposition (or anything else, for that matter); instead, I trusted that the arcane nature of the resurrection ritual would take care of all those sutures and the pesky embalming fluid and whatnot. Magick works in mysterious ways, no?

As an aside, I did a little work in the funeral industry as a young man, specifically in the interment (and, on rare occasion) disinterment areas.

Thanks Kris! Your story also raises my curiousity about the rate of decomposition. If you continue it, here's a few things to consider: Working in the funeral industry, I can tell you that embalming only stalls the process for a short time, but there are other factors involved such as the if burial is above or below ground. Apparently a major factor is the strength of the seal on a casket.

Something else: During embalming, the mouth is typically sealed shut either by sutures or adhesive. Madam President would need some IMMEDIATE surgery before she could speak :-)

Just stuff to think about :-)

And given the nature of my novel, it's a good catalyst for me to start diving into that research too.

Anyway! Keep writing, I'll keep reading.

For how fast I'd imagine you cranked this out, it's stellar. Actually, it's stellar REGARDLESS of the length of time you spent writing it.

I can already picture it developing into a full fledged novel. How would the world change if it was JFK being released from death? Or a corrupt president raising someone like Hitler? Not great ideas, but damn, the possibilities are exciting.

I'm rambling. Very well done - this has prompted me to start really digging into your other writings.

Cheers;
